Oct 2002. This locomotive deserves a place in the national railway museum in York. It is a very rare view of M1 class No.560. This loco is in the running shed at Demateragoda, just north of Colombo. Built by Brush bagnal as the company was then called, in Loughborogh England. This loco was part of the order for 24 locomotives which were constructed between 1952-1955. These 1000 hp, A1A-A1A locos were powered by a Mirrlees V12 , turbo charged engine and used four Brush traction motors and had a weight of 87 tons. These were true pioneer locomotives considering that at the time of construction the only other diesel-electric loco's inregular service in britain were LMS 1000 & 1001. This design was futher developed and emerged for British Railways the well known class 31. | Sri Lanka | (472) |
